Whisky Glen Garioch Whisky single malt écossais. Glen Garioch Renaissance Chapter 3 (50.8% ABV, NCF) Appearance: Deep gold, thin legs coming very slowly off a sturdy necklace. The distillery remained under the ownership of their descendants for decades, passing from one generation to the next until in 1844 it came into the possession of one John Manson who’s son Patrick would make a most significant contribution to science, and in particular, medicine.

This is my first Glen Garioch - the 'Founder's Reserve' is the baseline malt for this distillery, and is bottled at the unusual choice of 48% ABV, without chill-filtration, after maturation in ex-bourbon casks. There is no age statement, but it's probably around 8 years of age. Glen Garioch was founded in 1797 and is located in Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire. It is owned by Suntory from Japan since 1994. The current core range consists of the two Single malts I'm reviewing today. Both the 1797 Founders Reserve and the 12 Years were launched in 2009. The Founders Reserve certainly stands out in the sea of boring mainstream

The distillery remained under the ownership of their descendants for decades, passing from one generation to the next until in 1844 it came into the possession of one John Manson who’s son Patrick would make a most significant contribution to science, and in particular, medicine. Hence the 1797 date in the title of the whisky under review here. I hesitate to assume the role of grammar cop for obvious reasons, but if the distillery was founded by two brothers, wouldn’t it be Founders’ Reserve, not Founder‘s Reserve? That seems like one of those fairly obvious typos someone would catch early on, but you know
