14/02/2020 · We got to see how this newly discovered female power affected society through its religion, its education, its politics, its culture, and each had clearly been carefully considered by Alderman when planning her novel’s narrative – whilst it may not have been the most action-packed of the storylines, I particularly enjoyed following the The Power is a 2016 science fiction novel by the British writer Naomi Alderman. Its central premise is women developing the ability to release electrical jolts from their fingers, thus leading them to become the dominant gender. In June 2017, The Power won the Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction. The book was also named by The New York Times as one of the 10 Best Books of 2017.

The #metoo movement’s exposure of sexual assault and harassment likely makes the power to defend one’s self sound quite handy. In plot, The Power is the exact opposite of The Handmaid’s Tale. Rather than men running the world and a shortage of women, the world of The Power flips the power dynamic entirely and places women at the apex of power with men being the ones subjugated.
